• We will explore how Middle C is represented on the music staff, how it is played on various instruments, and how it is used in compostion and improvisation.

This course, revised in 2022, will introduce you to the theory of music, providing you with the skills needed to read and write Western music notation, as well as to understand, analyse, and listen informedly.

This course introduces students to strategies for style writing of common practice European art music. The issues of harmonic progression, voice leading, and texture are addressed in addition to relevant compositional concepts like repetition, variation, and elaboration.

Moonbeams 3 is the final level in Music for Young Children.  When MYC was written, it was with the intent to integrate and prepare our students to take their first piano exam and theory exam at the end of their MB3 year.

This introductory course on how to play the violin covers the basics of technique, scales and exercises, music theory, and repertoire. Students will learn how to properly hold the violin and bow, produce sound, and tune the instrument. They will also practice basic scales, exercises and bowing techniques to develop finger strength, dexterity, and control. In addition, the course will cover basic music notation and symbols, time signatures, and key signatures to develop the theoretical understanding of the instrument. Finally, students will learn simple songs and melodies in various musical styles and genres to apply their newfound skills. By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in the basics of playing the violin and the tools to continue their studies on their own.
